Fall Happenings

After a fairly non-existent summer, Fall has arrived, turning the leaves on many trees vibrant golds, reds, yellows, and oranges. It seems the temperatures are dropping faster than normal and we are already into the 20's some nights! Time for my flannel sheets and flannel jammies!
We have a puppy now, Blondie - who is now seven months old. This little girl has such a personality and is so loveable and likes to play that I am totally in love with her!!!! Having my six-year old granddaughter her with us after school on many days and having Blondie crazy about her too are the highlights of my life!
Yes, I am still traveling now and again to teach, lecture, etc., but I am taking fewer "gigs" as I want to spend more time at home with my husband, granddaughter, dog, and family!
I am currently working on a fairly large landscape quilt incorporating photos from my garden that I "tiled" (enlarged) and printed on computer ready fabric that also has a large arbor with grapes, grape leaves and vines twisting and turning around the arbor (I'll put in a photo). I am still in the designing phase and need to incorporate something in the distance (currently auditioning some benches), and then begins my thread-play.
My other passion, writing, is taking a new turn. I've began a quilting novel - It's my first attempt at fiction but I am having a blast with it - trying to make it humorous even though the subject material is serious. I'm only done with one chapter thus far as life seems to come before time to write or design quilts, but I am not complaining.
Something I've learned the hard way this past week is: Cherish your friends and loved ones and tell them how important they are. I lost a dear friend on October 12th. I never got to say goodbye as she died suddenly and I miss having her in my life. So, hug your friends, your family, your dog - anyone or anything that you love and thank God they are in your life!
Fondly,
Joyce

Alert for missing quilt

Dear friends,
It is with a heavy heart that I report the loss of my quilt, Dryer Lint, ETC. This quilt, along with three other created by C&T authors, are cover quilts for new books. They were last seen at Spring Quilt Market in Salt Lake City, May 17, 2011 in the C&T booth. There is a $4,000 reward for these quilts (go to www.ctpub to see all the missing quilts. If you see any of the quilts, please call the police and call Amy Marson at C&T Publishing. Please notify me as well if you see my quilt! Thanks so much, Joyce

Quilt Camp at Sea Cruise to Mexico 2011

Fantasy Forest by Joyce R. Becker
Joyce - leaving San Diego on cruise (on our veranda)
It's been so long since I blogged - I should be ashamed of myself, but, I'm not! Life tends to overtake us now and again. We had a lovely time on the Quilt Camp at Sea cruise leaving from San Diego to Mexico. I get seasick, so I wore "the patch" but it made me certifiably crazy, shaking, scary, etc. So, I took it off and went on sea-sick pills! Then, I got seasick - So, back on the patch!!! It was a great cruise - great students, wonderful food, and a great time with family! Here are a couple of photos from the cruise and a quilt I am entering in the Pacific Northwest QuiltFest in August. Love, Joyce

New Directons

A late Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to each and every one of you! God has blessed our family big time this Christmas - We finally have the opportunity to have our almost six-year old granddaughter with us in Washington. I won't go into details, but it is a blessing to have her here with her Daddy at last and with us for "day care" until she starts school after the 1st of January. I will put everything else on the back burner for now and of course continue teaching and lecturing for bookings already in place. This little girl needs love, structure, and support and we need to be there for her. I wish all of you the best. xxoo Joyce

Houston

I'm off to do my thing at International Quilt Festival in Houston on Wed. My schedule is jam packed with teaching, lecturing, appearances, the Sampler, Meet the Teachers, and so forth - but it will also be an amazing time to spend with my dear friends and "roomies" Rosy Carolan and Ginny Frame. For their own sake, I do hope they bring their ear-plugs as I snore like a truck driver. Rosy is in the photo above on the right side and Ginny is next to her. This photo was taken while I filmed a series of on-line classes for L-Quilt.
Although I don't get much time to actually see the show, I get to take a peek on preview night and also again on Saturday afternoon, so that's cool. I rarely make it to the vendors, although it would be fun to see all the new gismos and gadgets! If any of you come to Houston, I hope we have the chance to connect. I am staying at the Hilton so you can always leave me a message. I am anxious to see how my new book, Quick Little Landscape Quilts sells.....talk to you when I return.....Joyce
